Poptakeout.com

This iPhone/iPod Touch web application displays the top 10 headlines from each of the top 5 social news websites online (Digg, Reddit, Newsvine, Tailrank, and Del.icio.us) in a built-for-Mobile-Safari GUI. Originally made as a design exercise to get my feet wet with Mobile Safari, Poptakeout.com launched in September of 2007 and has retained small core of ~500 daily users with little or no promotion other than a favorable review on The Unofficial Mac Weblog. Click here to see it on an iPhone if you don't have access to one.

Healthbolt.net

On June 21st, 2006 I decided I wanted to teach myself CSS, so I created healthbolt.net, a weblog about humans andÊtheir bodies. Nine months, four redesigns, and 600 articles later it was in the top 1500 blogs online and receiving 600,000Êmonthly pageviews; I was getting calls for radio interviews as a health expert, which is something I am not. Seeing where thisÊwas headed, and as how I'm better at blogging, web development, and marketing than biology, I sold Healthbolt to b5media in June of 2007. It is currently maintained by b5media. Unfortunately, all that's left my my old blog designs is the logo, but all my articles are still available in the archives.

TheWebDevelopersFieldGuide.com

A massive online web development resource. I had been collecting bookmarks for years, and I thought I would share. This web portal contains over 1000 links to resources, tips, tools, and tricks for web developers on every subject from color theory and typography to search engine optimization and making money online. It was an enjoyable challenge to organize this much information in a way that is easily readable and navigable. This site launched january 25th, 2008 and has averaged 5,824 daily page visits with 100% organic marketing.

StanleyMusic.com

Independent musician Adam Stanley's online presence. This is a very cleanly designed website showcasing the musician, his show schedule, and his music.

7: Kansas City Improv Festival Postcard

600 postcards for the '07 festival were mailed out 6 weeks before the performance dates. This, combined with a word of mouth marketing strategy, and a heavy grassroots campaign online made the festival an overwhelming success. By the time the headliner, Saturday Night Live Star Jason Sudeikis, got in town and went on a local morning show to promote 7:KCiF, the festival was already sold out, so he told people to buy tickets for next year. The City 3 Project is a not-for-profit organization seeking to foster and educate the improv community in Kansas City. I am a former board member of The City 3 Project and I am also the stage manager for the festival.

Ultramax Events Logo

Logo design for one of the largest triathlon production companies in the United States: Ultramax Events. This is the final proof sheet I sent them after they had selected one of several presented concepts for further polishing. Ultramax had requested a logo that represented strength and victory. They liked this design and purchased this logo from me, as it appears here, in the first quarter of 2007, but still have not put it into use as of this writing.

T-Shirt for The Heart of America Shakespeare Festival 15th Anniversary Season

This was a last-minute commission by HASF. There had been an internal miscommunication and, 72 hoursÊbefore print, they had no design. A friend called on a Friday afternoon asking for fast work as an in-kind donation. HASF wanted toÊrepresent the source material's romantacism along with its malice. I love the reflection ofÊthe play's duality in the modern symbol of tragedy, a flat lineing EKG, paired with a very ancient symbolÊof celebration, the traditional heart shape.

CounterClockwiseComedy.com

CounterClockwise Comedy is a professional improvisation troupe performing live shows, public and private, in the greater Kansas City area. I am a founding member of this troupe and I do all their branding and marketing on and off line. They have received praise in the local press and are known for breaking the mold when it comes to live comedic performance, dabbling in dance, improvisation, stand-up and sketch comedy.
